Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Saturday, April 30: At 12:26 am, a deputy assisted a Jefferson Police Officer with a domestic call in 900 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson. At 7:53 am a deputy was advised by the Guthrie County sheriff’s office of a reported single vehicle rollover accident that was in Greene County just south of County Road E-63 (330th St) on D Ave in Willow Township with no one at the scene. The deputy determined the driver of the pickup to be Matthew Thomas Schoon, 26, of Bayard. The accident is under investigation at this time with several charges pending. At 12:45 pm a deputy was advised of a burglary and theft of personal property from a rural building site. At 3:22 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1600 block of T Ave in Junction Township to investigate a burglary and theft of property from a rural building site.
Friday, April 29: At 4:26 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Jay St in Churdan to investigate the theft of a push lawn mower. At 7:10 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction for a reported minor backing accident. At 7:26 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Main St in Rippey to remove a duck from the residence. The deputy reported the duck to be cooperative.
Thursday, April 28: At 8:06 am a deputy was dispatched to the Union Pacific railroad overpass in Grand Junction to try to locate a small black and brown puppy that was reported to be slowing traffic on the overpass. The pup was located and transported to the animal shelter in Jefferson. The owner’s phone number was on the dog’s collar and he was contacted. At 11:20 am a deputy was advised of the theft of an Aluma trailer that was taken from a rural residence in the 900 block of 222nd St in Jackson Township.
Wednesday, April 27: At 4:45 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the Greene County Intermediate School in Grand Junction to check on several youth reported to be carrying what looked to be a gas can and acting suspiciously. The youth were not located upon the deputy’s arrival.
Tuesday, April 26: At 8:37 am the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted the Gowrie PD with a search of the school. School lockers and student vehicles were searched by the K-9. At 9:44 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2000 block of D Ave in Willow Township to investigate criminal mischief to several glass items within a farm house. At 10:59 am a deputy, while on routine patrol in Scranton, located a male subject driving a motorcycle who and was known to be barred from driving. After an initial investigation, the deputy arrested Kole Alexander Higgins, 21, of Grand Junction for driving while barred*. At 1:02 pm the chief deputy sheriff responded to investigate a reported single vehicle motorcycle accident that occurred in the 1400 block of Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. Abraham Benjamin Yoder, 19, of Jefferson was riding his 2007 Kawasaki 650 motorcycle when he lost control, causing damage to the bike. Yoder was not injured. At 1:27 pm a deputy was advised of the theft of a canister light fixture from the city park shelter house in Scranton. At 9:48 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident in the 1800 block of County Road P-30 (R Ave) in Grant Township. Candi Kirk, 47, of Grand Junction was northbound on P-30 when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the her vehicle. Kirk was not injured but her 2011 Toyota Camry sustained major damage.
Monday, April 25: At 10:34 am, a deputy was dispatched to investigate the burglary to a farm building site in Greene Country. At 2:56 pm a deputy was dispatched for a reported single vehicle accident on County Road P-14 (J Ave) near County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. Kolan Michael Dolph, 22, of Gowrie was southbound on P-14 driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup owned by Landus Cooperative and pulling a dual anhydrous ammonia tank. The hitch pin failed as the truck began to slow for the stop sign at E-57. The ammonia tanks and wagon gear then struck the back of the pickup, causing it to jackknife into the west ditch coming to rest on its side. Dolph was not injured, but damage to the pickup was reported to be $10,000. At 3:39 pm two deputies, JPD officers and Jefferson fire department all responded for a possible fuel leak at the Kum & Go Store in Jefferson. One of the island fuel pumps was struck by a vehicle and damaged. The vehicle then drove away from the store, but was later located. At 11:31 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a belligerent patron at the Wild Rose Casino. The male subject was subsequently arrested and transported to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.
Sunday, April 24: At 12:49 pm two deputies assisted the JPD with locating and arresting a Grand Junction resident in the 900 block of Main Street East in Grand Junction who was involved in a domestic assault in Jefferson. The deputies arrested Jonathan Laue, 39, of Grand Junction on numerous charges*.
Saturday, April 23: At 4:19 pm a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the 800 block of E. Percival St in Grand Junction.
Friday, April 22: At 9:27 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of County Road E-33 (Eaton Ave) in Kendrick Township to investigate the report of a misplaced or stolen firearm. At 4 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigate the theft of a bicycle. At 5:30 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of P Ave in Dawson Township to investigate a reported burglary and possible theft of personal property. At 5:35 pm a deputy was asked to help locate a female driver from Carroll County that was possibly disoriented and last seen driving in western Greene County. She was located by the deputy and found to be safe at a residence 400 block of County Road E-53 (250th St) in Scranton Township. At 7:52 pm a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in Rippey for a stop sign violation and subsequently arrested Sheldon Dean McMain, 19, of Norwalk for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

Wednesday, April 20: At 12:42 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of County Road P-33 (S Ave) in Hardin Township to investigate a burglary and theft of personal property.
Tuesday, April 19: At 9:22 am a deputy was advised of a stop sign that was knocked down in Scranton. At 9:40 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2200 block of Highway 25 in Willow Township for the report of cattle on the roadway. The owner was advised and placed the cattle back into the lot. At 11:32 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2200 block of D Ave in Willow Township to investigate the theft of property from a farm building site. At 3:12 pm, a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported physical and verbal disagreement between two male students at the Grand Junction Intermediate School in Grand Junction.
Monday, April 18: At 7:07 am a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of State St in Scranton to investigate vandalism to a vehicle and the theft of a truck battery.
Sunday, April 17: At 12:53 am, a deputy, Alliant Energy and Jefferson fire units all responded to a power line that was on the ground and had caused a grass fire in the 1500 block of Highway 30 near Jefferson. At 8:59 am a deputy spoke with a resident in the 1400 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) about a harassment concern. At 4:52 pm, a deputy was dispatched to Churdan to investigate criminal mischief to several windows in the Lions Club caboose at the city park on Highway 4. The two juvenile males responsible were located and spoken to about the consequences. The two young boys and the parents agreed to replace the windows. At 10:03 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township to investigate a reported assault. The investigation is ongoing.
Saturday, April 16: At 3:49 pm a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported burglary and theft of personal property from a farm building site in northern Greene County. At 5:18 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of State Street in Scranton to investigate criminal mischief to a vehicle. At 7:48 pm a deputy was advised of a harassment concern in the 800 block of North 18th St in Grand Junction.
Friday, April 15: At 10:22 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Hill Ave in Churdan for a reported personal property civil issue. After an investigation by the deputy, Justin Trevor Tysseling, 22, of Churdan, was arrested for assault-simple.

Tuesday, April 12: At 3:23 pm a deputy spoke to a Churdan area resident about a red pickup truck with no plates driving around the Paton-Churdan School and transporting children. At 5:24 pm two deputies located and stopped a 4 wheel ATV that was being operated at a high rate of speed within the city limits of Grand Junction. The juvenile driver was issued citations for no valid driver’s license, careless driving and failure to obey a stop sign. The ATV was impounded by the deputies. At 8:44 pm a deputy, Greene County EMS and Jefferson fire units were all dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson near the Raccoon River. Catlin Jeffrey Laffoon, 27, of Ames, was eastbound on Highway 30 when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by his vehicle. Laffoon was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation of minor injuries. His 2014 Chevrolet Camaro was reported to have sustained major damage. Laffoon was wearing his seat belt and the air bags did deploy.
Monday, April 11: At 8:19 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2000 block of D Ave in Willow Township to investigate criminal mischief to a U.S. postal mail box. At 10:05 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Lovejoy St in Rippey to investigate criminal mischief to the interior of a home and other personal property.
Sunday, April 10: At 3:15 pm a deputy was asked to check the status of a vehicle that was experiencing mechanical problems on Highway 4 (N Ave) near 170th St north of Jefferson. The driver of the vehicle, Nicole Michelle Onnen, 32, of Des Moines, was subsequently arrested by the deputy for driving while barred*. At 4:10 pm the sheriff was dispatched to investigate the report of a juvenile female that was missing from her home in the 400 block of S 12th St in Grand Junction. The 8-year-old had ridden her bike with two other youth to the east side of Grand Junction and then returned home several hours later.
Saturday, April 9: At 10:59 am, two deputies assisted a JPD officer with a family domestic dispute in Jefferson. At 1:14 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a domestic call in Jefferson. At 3:40 pm the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted a JPD officer with checking a vehicle after a traffic stop in Jefferson. At 4:49 pm a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol officer with a traffic stop on Highway 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson and the subsequent arrest of Danny Lee Thorn, 30, of Glidden for operating while intoxicated – third offense*. At 9:47 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with locating a reported vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed from Scranton to Jefferson on County Road E-53. The JPD officer subsequently arrested Craig Allen Kinsey, 46, of Jefferson on numerous charges after the traffic stop*.
Friday, April 8: At 9:04 am a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Jefferson St in Scranton to investigate criminal mischief to a window. At 2:39 pm a deputy assisted two JPD officers with responding to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room for a belligerent male subject. At 3 pm a deputy spoke with a male subject at the law enforcement center about the proper title for a motorcycle. It was discovered that the male purchased a motorcycle that was stolen. At 4:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of S. 14th St in Grand Junction to investigate the report of youth discharging a BB gun. The youth were not located at that time.
Thursday, April 7: At 8:25 am a deputy was advised by the operator of a Landus (West Central and Farmers Cooperative merger) owned Rogator farm sprayer, of a vehicle that had passed him at the intersection of Highway 144 (U Ave) and 120th St in Paton Township with the car striking a Rogator tire as it passed. The car did not stop as it proceeded southbound on Highway 144. No damage was done to the Rogator.
Wednesday, April 6: At 9:20 am a deputy assisted JPD officers with a domestic assault call and the arrest of a male subject in the 100 block of E Central Ave in Jefferson. At 2:12 pm a deputy assisted JPD officers with a call at the same location as previously reported for criminal mischief to a vehicle and the arrest of the same male subject. At 5:16 pm a deputy assisted a Greene County jailer with contraband found in the jail. At 6:07 pm a deputy was advised of a trespassing concern in the 900 block of 190th St in Bristol Township. At 6:57 pm two deputies assisted a JPD officer with a fight in progress and the arrest of several male subjects in the Hy-Vee parking lot.

Monday, April 4: At 2:06 pm a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction to investigate the theft of a GPS locating transmitter being used by USIC field personnel. At 9:11 pm a deputy took custody of DeAnn Marie Goff, 33, from a Carroll County deputy after she was arrested in Carroll County on outstanding warrants from Greene and Dallas counties.
Sunday, April 3: At 3:22 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to speak with the owner of a building that was legally entered by city officials and a deputy with a search warrant. At 3:50 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Brentwood Ave in Cedar Township to investigate criminal mischief to the electrical wiring on a farm tractor. At 9:16 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan to investigate further criminal mischief to windows in the building. It was determined that the window glass was probably blown out by the wind after several were shot with a BB gun earlier in the week.
Saturday, April 2: At 7:49 pm a deputy located a reported calf that had strayed from the cow and was standing along the roadway in the 1200 block of W Ave in Junction Township. The deputy placed the calf back into the cattle lot. At 8:15 pm a deputy, a Rippey fire unit and Greene County Emergency Medical Services all responded and helped a Boone County deputy and Dallas County EMS with a single vehicle roll-over accident on the Angus curve on Highway 144 in Boone County.
Friday, April 1: At 3:15 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of North 11th St in Grand Junction for several dogs running at large. The owner was contacted and advised about the city ordnance of dogs on leash when outside the home.
*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
